2001 - Present, Haptek, Inc. Santa Cruz, California
Vice President, Business Development

Haptek, Inc. is a leading software development company building the standard for truly interactive, photo-realistic, 3D characters for the Internet. Haptek software creates photo-realistic, full-bodied, fully animated, morphing and emotive characters in dynamic environments that visually and verbally interact with the end-user in real time and at virtually any bandwidth. These characters (or “avatars”) are used in multiple industries including eCRM, Medical Training, eLearning, Kiosk and many others – specific developments include Cognos advanced enterprise-based Web Services application, Medical Learning’s (a Kurzweil Technology Company) advanced knowledge-based (SQL driven) medical training systems, Nokia 3650 cell-phone video communications system and more.

As Vice President, Business Development, my extensive experience in both executive and engineering management, and my hands-on engineering development experience have provided the necessary elements to open new marketing channels for this very advanced technology. My active internal developments include: Advanced knowledge-based (AI) integration for database-driven (SQL) eCRM systems crossing multiple tiers of customer support. Automated 2.5D-based cell-phone video communications and video-messaging systems. Database-driven (mySQL) eLearning systems.

1999 - 2001 Bureau1030, LLC, Seattle, Washington
Chief Technology Officer

Bureau1030 was formed as a Legal/Technology firm majority-owned by Riddell Williams, PS – a Washington-based law firm. Over a two year period, Bureau1030 developed and implemented an advanced, automated risk analysis tool for e-business called the Early Warning Agent (EWA). The EWA captures a company’s website and performs an advanced legal and technical risk assessment in over 30 different legal and technical categories. The EWA is used by law firms, insurance brokers, and companies across the US to identify and analyze both the legal and technical liability to which a company may be exposed. This allows the company to correct these areas prior to potential expensive litigation or technical difficulty, and identifies areas of increased risk for insurance purposes.

As CTO at Bureau1030 my responsibilities included:

Technical product definition and market planning
Product engineering management & database (SQL) development
Network administration & management (Unix and NT Platforms)
Product-related third-party technology and service agreements
Customer support management (vendor and end-user)

My activity included both hands-on product engineering as well as management of a small development group of 3-4 people. Our product was developed using C++ and Perl on Unix (BSDI and Linux) platforms for the network-based data collection and reporting system, as well as an additional CD-based client for customer portability and archival purposes.
